Arriving in London
Immigration
On arrival in the UK you will need to go through passport control. If you are an EEA (European Economic Area) citizen, this should be no problem and you just need to show your passport. For other nationalities, make sure that you have all your relevant documents within easy reach. You will need to prove that you are a serious student, and that you have money to support yourself. You will also be expected to have information about your London accommodation.
Transport
It is much cheaper to travel into London on public transport than it is with a KAE airport pick-up or a taxi. If you want to travel by public transport - make sure you get an Oyster Card which is generally the cheapest way to make single journeys in the Capital. An Oyster card can store up to £90 of credit, which can be used to pay as you go, plus your Travelcard or Bus & Tram Pass. It can be used on bus, Tube, trams, DLR, London Overground and some National Rail services in London. You can get one at most Tube station offices. When you first get your Oyster card, you will need to pay a refundable £3 deposit if you are only adding cash to pay as you go.
If you do want to get a taxi – make sure it is a ‘black cab’. The rates are fixed. Unlicensed taxis can sometimes take advantage of foreigners.
If you would like to be picked up from the airport, you will need to book this in advance. We can arrange for you to be taken from any London airport to your accommodation. Please contact us for further information.

Weather
The weather in Britain is very changeable so whenever you come it is sensible to bring a variety of different clothes – and an umbrella!
In the winter (December-February) it is very cold and you should bring lots of warm clothes, including a hat and scarf. Summer (June-August) has an average temperature of 17-21 degrees Celsius. Temperatures can rise to over 30 degrees Celsius. You will also need a light jacket and some sweaters. Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) have average temperatures of 10-15 degrees Celsius, but again can be variable, so make sure you bring some warm clothes.
